Gumtree Australia appoints new COO and digital lead

Gumtree Australia appointed Luke Miller as new chief operating officer, and Nick Ellery as senior digital performance manager.

Luke Miller (LinkedIn) comes from EBay Classifieds Group (Italy), where he is general manager responsible for profit and loss, strategy and finance, marketing and product management of three leading EBay sites, namely Kijiji.it (general classifieds site in Italy), Automobile.it (an auto vertical in Italy) and EBayAnnunci.it (now defunct).

He will move to Gumtree Australia as COO in 2017, to oversee the company’s technology, marketing and product areas.

He is not new to Australia. In 2014, he served as acting general manager of Gumtree Australia. Miller’s career spans 15 years in the technology and IT industry in Australia, The Netherlands, U.S. and Italy. Eleven of the 15 years he was with EBay.

Miller has a Bachelor of computer science from the University of New South Wales.

Nick Ellery (LinkedIn) was appointed senior digital marketing manager for Gumtree Australia effective November (last month). Ellery holds a Bachelor of information systems from the University of Sydney, and a Masters in marketing from The Australian National University.

Ellery’s background is in both information systems and marketing, and he has worked on a wide variety of online, new media and traditional marketing roles and projects.

Gumtree launched in Australia back in 2007 as a classified ads and community site. The site now spans 76 cities across eleven countries, including Australia, U.K., Ireland, Northern Ireland, Poland, South Africa, New Zealand, Singapore and Hong Kong.

Gumtree is owned by EBay Inc..
