REA Group appoints Ruiz as interim CEO in Asia
12 Mar 2017
Global real estate advertising company REA Group (ASX: REA) appointed Henry Ruiz as interim chief executive of the company’s Asia business with immediate effect.
Ruiz will step into the shoes of Arthur Charlaftis, the company’s chief operations officer, who left the group after deciding against relocating to Southeast Asia, where the company’s international business is primarily located, following the sale of REA Group’s European operations earlier this year.
As interim CEO, Ruiz will oversee the group’s Asian business, which includes Iproperty Group and the Chinese property website Myfun.com.
He will continue to report to REA Group’s CEO Tracey Fellows, and retain his position on the board of PropTiger, the group’s joint venture in India.
Ruiz previously held the position of chief digital officer of the company’s Australian operations, which Fellows said makes him well-placed to lead the group’s Asia business, as it continues to lead the region’s digital transformation.
“Henry’s expertise, knowledge and experience in delivering world-class, digital products and consumer experiences, is the perfect grounding to drive this digital transformation.
“Our purpose is to change the way the world experiences property, and we have an exciting opportunity in this region to do just that. We’ll do it through creating great products, for the benefit of consumers and driving value for customers. Henry is very well placed to step into this role.”
The promotion of Ruiz also sees Val Brown, the company’s executive manager of personalized experiences and mobile applications, step up to the newly created position of executive manager of consumer experience, based in the group’s Melbourne, Australia headquarters.
Brown will be responsible for leading REA Group’s Australian consumer and product teams, and will also become a member of the company’s executive leadership team.
Prior to joining REA Group in 2009, Ruiz was vice president of media solutions and partnerships for Local Matters’ Asia Pacific operations.
Ruiz is currently an advisory board member for Realtor.com, a subsidiary of Move Inc (Nasdaq: MOVE), the joint venture between REA Group and its parent company News Corporation (ASX: NWS).
