Gbenro Dara appointed CEO of Cheki Nigeria
06 May 2017
Gbenro Dara, CEO of general marketplace Efritin.com until it closed office in Nigeria in January (our report), confirmed his appointment as CEO of Cheki.com.ng, Nigeria’s leading auto vertical. Efritin is a business of Saltside Technologies.
Cheki is a business of One Africa Media (OAM). It operates in Kenya, Nigeria, Uganda, Tanzania and Ghana, and runs sites in several other countries in Africa focused on the import of cars from Japan, the U.S., and Europe. The network includes Cheki sites in Mauritius, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia, and Zimbabwe.
“I have been appointed CEO of Cheki.com.ng, and I will work around the clock to ensure we give you the best car-buying and -selling experience in Nigeria. Looking forward to engaging you all,” Dara wrote in an official email.
Dara has extensive experience in online business management in Nigeria. Back in 2012, he and Leonard Stiegeler, current Ringier Africa general manager, founded Sabunta and Kasuwa, Rocket Internet’s pioneering ventures in Nigeria. Stiegeler later went on to establish Startup Partners Africa, where Dara headed the operations.
At Nova Capital, a leading Investment Bank domiciled in New York, which operates on four continents, Dara had a stint with private equity investment, before finally co-founding MyAutoGenius.com, an online auto insurance company in Nigeria, in 2014.
Later he moved to Efrintin, where he was CEO for eight months before an unexpected economic recession forced the company to close business in Nigeria.
“The last year has been pretty fast, exhausting and in many ways rewarding. Thank you to everyone who contributed – in one way or the other – to make it a memorable and impactful one,” he added.
