French IT site Talent.io raises another €8 million

Talent.io, the largest recruiting platform in France for IT engineers, just raised €8 million ($9 million U.S.) from existing investors Alven Capital and Ventech.

The funds raised will be used to boost international expansion, develop new services and increase the platform’s staff from 40 to 100 employees by 2019, according to ITEspresso (full article available here in French).

The site has already raised €2 million from these investors, along with Elaia Partners and several business angels.

Venture capital firm Ventech is invested in a number of classifieds start-ups. Among them are real estate start-up RealBest.de, Secoo.com, a used, luxury accessories site in China, Helpling, a home-services site, and AsGoodAsNew.com, a recommerce site for consumer electronics.

Paris-based Talent.io also operates in London and recently expanded to Germany (we reported here). It expanded by acquiring Webcrowd, a Berlin-based recruitment agency for IT workers. Talent.io plans to operate in ten cities by 2019.

Talent.io was launched in Paris just 15 months ago by three French internet entrepreneurs Jonathan Azoulay, Nicolas Meunier and Amit Aharoni. The site has a hybrid business model, consisting of a mix of fees (percentage of new hires’ salaries) and a premium subscription (for IT recruiters) for extra services.

In Europe, the IT job market is worth around 5 billion, with 8 million jobs available for 7 million skilled people, one of the co-founders Jonathan Azoulay told Les Echos (full article here in French).

On Talent.io, job seekers are approved before they may display their profiles for a limited period of only two to four weeks on the site. Tech companies receive an email every week with new candidates. While 4,500 candidates sign up every month, only 400 of them get selected. After a month, candidates who didn’t find a new job are removed from the platform. 

So far, Talent.io has attracted 2,000 tech companies including Adobe, Gopro, Tripadvisor, Transferwise, Number 26, Blablacar, Deezer, Axa, BNP Paribas and Daimler. Most of them are based in Paris, with 200 companies in London and 200 in Berlin. The largest share of clients are small businesses and start-ups.

Talent.io has a database of 40,000 profiles and an audience of around 150,000 total monthly visitors, according to SimilarWeb.
